Live: Rane acted as per his 'sanskar', says NCP's Sharad Pawar

Union minister Narayan Rane was on Tuesday arrested by Ratnagiri Police over his remarks against Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. The development comes amid clashes and war of words between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sena workers. Narayan Rane's aide Pramod Jathar claims that "no arrest warrant was produced" and the police pleaded that they were under "pressure" to arrest the minister. The Shiv Sainiks raised slogans and placards against the Union minister, who had said that he "would have slapped Thackeray for forgetting India's year of independence". A heavy police bandobast has been put in place in the city. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MP Vinayak Raut also wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the sacking of Rane.
