Army’s ‘secret’ Tibetan force has Odisha roots

After India’s defeat at the hands of the Chinese in 1962, the former Odisha CM Biju Patnaik— famed for his aviation skills and derring-do — pushed for the establishment of a guerilla unit to take on the Chinese. A force comprising both the CIA-trained guerilla Khampa fighters in Nepal and Tibet and Tibetan refugees was raised which we today call Special Frontier Force.
